Cop Shoots Baby And Baby's Father In Double Murder-Suicide, NYPD Says

Cop Kills Baby, Boyfriend In Murder-Suicide

Police say an off-duty NYPD officer shot and killed her baby son and the baby's father in Brooklyn Monday, before turning the gun on herself.

Police responded to the scene after reports of gunfire, NBC reports. After a brief standoff, the cop then murdered her one-year-old son and the child's father before taking her own life.

Rosette Samuel, 43, was found alongside the body of her baby son in her bed at 805 East 56th St., in East Flatbush, Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said at the scene.

The body of her boyfriend, who was the father of the child, was found lying in the doorway, police said.

The cop was 43-years-old, had been in the police force since 2000, and worked in 108th precinct in Brooklyn, said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.

Police say the 19-year-old son of the cop from a previous marriage escaped out a back window during the shooting before calling 911.

From The AP:

The officer and child were apparently shot in the chest. It's not clear where the man was struck, or how many rounds were fired. The teenager, who is the officer's son from a previous relationship, was uninjured.

It's not clear what prompted the dispute. Police were still investigating.

The officer worked in Queens for at least the past 13 years. She was off-duty at the time.

A next-door neighbor, who identified herself as an aunt, said she could find no reason for the deaths. She said the officer was always smiling and waving to her, and seemed like a happy person.

"It's terrible," Agnes Samuel, 83, said as she choked up. "For people to take a life like that. Oh, Lord!"

Browne also said there was nothing in Rosette Samuel's record as an officer to suggest she was trouble, The New York Times reports.
