Denver Second 'Safest Feeling' City In U.S.: Poll

Residents in Denver say they feel safe to walk around their neighborhoods at night, so much so that Mile High City is ranked as the second "safest feeling" city in the United States, according to a new Gallup poll.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota ranked number 1 with 80 percent of respondents answering "yes" to Gallup's poll question. Denver was followed by the Raleigh-Cary region of North Carolina at 3rd (78 percent), Boston-Cambridge region at 4th (77 percent) and Salt Lake City at 5th (77 percent).

At the bottom of the list was Memphis area residents, only 55 percent of whom said they felt safe walking around in their area at night. And not far behind Memphis was the New Orleans region at 59 percent, Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in southern California at 61 percent, Houston area at 63 percent an Jacksonville region also at 63 percent.

Denver was also higher than the national feeling of safety by about 6 points -- nationally, about 72 percent of all people said they felt safe walking around their neighborhoods at night.
