Sue Sylvester's future on "Glee" is still up in the air.

In last week's episode "Shooting Star," Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester took the blame when bullets were accidentally fired at McKinley High. In reality, it was her student and Cheerio co-captain Becky Jackson (Lauren Potter). Sue was subsequently fired and Lynch told Hollyscoop that the character is still out of the picture.

“[On the show] I have been fired. I haven’t been written back in yet. I am in the show, but [my character] is teaching aerobics at 23 hour fitness, so that is where Sue Sylvester is right now, so we’ll see what happens,” she said.

Lynch said that Sue will still be meddling, telling CBS, "I keep my hand in McKinley. I'm very interested in what's going on with the kids."

"Glee" has yet to be renewed for a Season 5 -- the deal is in progress -- but Lynch said she expects she (and Sue) will return.

"Shooting Star" was met with a fair amount of controversy and members of the Newtown/Sandy Hook School community urged viewers not to watch even before the episode aired.

Not only did the series depict a school shooting just months after the events in Newtown, CT, but it also put the weapon in the hand of a character with Down syndrome. The Huffington Post spoke with Potter and her mother Robin Sinkhorn about the episode and the controversy surrounding the topic.

"The shootings are still fresh in all of our minds," Sinkhorn said. "If Becky's going to be fully included on the show -- which they've done such a good job about that and giving her these juicy stories -- then why not Becky?

"Whether she has Down syndrome or not, it doesn't matter ... Why wouldn't it be somebody with Down syndrome because she's a kid. She's a teenager. She makes stupid decisions just like other teenagers do."

Lynch told CBS News she also has no complaints about "Shooting Star" and what's to come. "I think this storyline is really incredible for both Sue and for Becky. So I trust that they'll come up with something good all the time ... They'll put me in situations where I'm going to have to really dig deep to come up with the way I'm going to play something. But mostly, it's the easiest job in the world, really," she said.
