Maxwell Ryan, Apartment Therapy Founder, Shares Small Space Tips On HuffPost Live (VIDEO)

It can fool your eyes into thinking the room is much bigger.

If you're living in a home that's 500 square feet or less, it can be difficult to make it feel anything but tiny. So, when Maxwell Ryan, founder of Apartment Therapy, joined our very own Brie Dyas on HuffPost Live, our readers were curious to learn some small space tips that could help to open up a teeny home.

Ryan suggested removing unnecessary doors, especially those that are accordion-style. According to Ryan, old houses often have non-functional doors that can cause clutter, making the space look smaller.

He also recommended painting walls white, while keeping floors dark by either staining them or adding an accent rug. Ryan said the brighter the walls, the bigger the space will look. "If [the space] is light, bright and expansive, you'll have the feeling of bigness, even if the square footage is relatively small."

Watch the video above to hear what else Ryan had to say about the topic. And be sure to click through our slideshow to see tips on how to decorate a small space.
