Things took a somber turn in the one-hour season finale of "Suburgatory." Change was in the air and Tessa was not taking it very well. After finding out Dalia had been sabotaging her relationship with Ryan so she could hook up with him -- at least until he leaves for college in Florida -- the two girls got into a brutal fight on school property.
It couldn't have come at a worse time either, as Dallas and George were deciding to move in together. George even went so far as to buy Dallas' dream house, only to have her back out of the entire relationship at the last minute. By this point, though, Tessa had already made her own ultimatum. When she heard she would have to live with Dalia, she moved out -- and into the school bathroom.
That only lasted a little while, though. At the end of the episode, with options running out, she saw her mother, played by Malin Akerman, at a train station. "For someone who was never around, she showed up at just the right time," Tessa said of her mom, Alex, in voiceover.
"I just wanted to be around in case you ever wanted me around," Alex said. Series creator Emily Kapnek told HuffPost that Alex's arrival opened up several possibilities for Season 3. "In my mind, once Tessa processes what's going on with George ... and that he is alone and broken somewhere, I can't imagine that she wouldn't run to her dad's side to check on him. So depending on Malin's availability and whether we get to write to her or not, we have a couple of potential storylines for how we are going to examine that."
HitFix called it a strong end to an otherwise up-and-down season. But is it strong enough to warrant a third season? ABC has yet to make a decision, but TVLine is confident. They've got the series as a "safe bet" to return.
