Snoop Lion appeared on HuffPost Live on Monday, and demanded that politicians in Washington reconsider an expansion on gun-control laws. A bill that demanded a gun-buyer background check was voted down in the U.S. Senate by a vote of 54 to 46 last week.
"Politicians, you all got to pay attention, man," Snoop said on HuffPost Live. "This world that we live in, it's so easy to get your hands on a gun. You've got to put some restrictions or ramifications on it. I can go outside right now and buy a gun. Easy. Just like that. You all should really think about it before it hits home, before it hits one of your family members or it hits you or affects someone personally that you know. It shouldn't take that. Those kids that lost their lives in Connecticut, those kids that keep losing their lives, innocent people who keep losing their lives; we have to speak up for them. We have to do something. We have to make a change. If we don't do nothing, it's going to hit us. If I can say it and I can mean it -- Goddamnit, get off your ass and make it happen."
Snoop's impassioned plea for stricter gun-control laws -- which referenced the school shooting in Newton, Conn. last year that left 20 children dead -- echoed what Barack Obama after the Senate failed to pass the bill last week.
"There are no coherent arguments for why we didn't do this," Obama said. "All in all, this was a pretty shameful day for Washington."
Snoop has been vocal about gun control before. The rapper has a new song on the upcoming album "Reincarnated" called "No Guns Allowed," which he produced with his daughter, Cori B., as well as Drake. According to Snoop, however, he's not looking to ban guns altogether.
"I'm speaking to gun violence. It's a big difference," he said. "I don't mind a guy having a gun that's protecting himself and knows how to use it. He's supposed to! I'm talking about these idiots with these guns that are shooting up these schools, shooting up these public places, that have no heart or no feelings for the people they're shooting. It's not fair."
