Christina Hendricks Loves Seeing 'Mad Men' Guys Suffer

Christina Hendricks dropped by "The Daily Show" to talk about the evolution of "Mad Men." As the series moves into the latter '60s, things aren't as glamorous and sexy for the men of the show as it used to be. Jon Stewart pointed out that while Don Draper was once the guy every guy wanted to be like, he seems somewhat more pathetic these days -- still probably cooler than most guys, but not as cool as they once thought.

Hendricks said that a part of this is pulling back the mystique and showing the consequences of the wild lifestyles these guys lived. "We do periodically show the consequences, which I think is important," she said. "I like when an episode starts with Don just sort of hacking, waking up and just coughing, and coughing and coughing and you’re like, ‘Yep, that’ll do it.’"

Vulture described it as series creator Matt Weiner spooling "a karmic storyline from the 'terrible' actions of these 'terrible, terrible' men."

Glamour said they're loving the increased focus on the ladies of "Mad Men" this season, saying that Christina's character, Joan, is making them "feel so much." But for the first time ever, Hendricks said she doesn't know what emotional hurdles are in store for Joan. Weiner usually fills her in at the beginning of the season, but this was the first year he kept those details to himself.

Watch Christina Hendricks every Sunday on "Mad Men" at 10 p.m. ET on AMC. "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
