Detroit Loses Bus Money, Suburbs Gain

Detroit stands to lose $7 million in federal transit funding to the suburbs this coming fiscal year, thinning out an already shoestring budget for the city's transportation department.

For decades, the city has gotten the bulk of federal funding for public transportation in the region. Mayor Dave Bing said Tuesday that a move to change the distribution formula for one year will happen even before southeast Michigan's fledgling Regional Transit Authority has a chance to weigh in on crucial funding issues.
