Louis Moore, New York City Transit Worker, Struck And Killed By E Train

A New York City transit worker was killed early Wednesday morning after being struck by a train.

NY1 reports 48-year-old Louis Moore was working at the 46th Street stop in Astoria around 3:21 a.m. He was reportedly trying to open a gate, when his tool bag became snagged on the gate, and he fell onto the tracks, where he was struck by a Queens-bound E train.

Moore was declared dead at the scene.

"We were just about to come into the station and we felt this thump," Jermaine Ramos, a passenger aboard the train that hit Moore, told The Daily News. "The train rocked a little and then we just stopped."

"There was no horn, no nothing. I don't understand how this could have happened. How come nobody knew he was down there? Did he have his flashlight? His radio?" Ramos said.

"It's terrible. I feel bad for his family. I don't even want to think about it anymore."

Service at the 46th Street stop, and nearby stations, was temporarily disrupted until about 6 a.m.
