Married Woman Fell In Love With Female Best Friend

Mixed-orientation marriage, where one partner is gay, the other straight, is a topic that rarely comes up in the gay marriage debate. And though these types of marriages are not widely discussed, they do exist. Nancy Redd hosted a HuffPost Live segment that explored different types of mixed-orientation marriages, and how couples came into them.

For 'Married Women Who Love Women' author Carren Strock, the discovery that she was attracted to women came long after she was married to her husband and high school sweetheart.

"I was married for 25 years," she told Redd. "I was sitting across the table from my best friend, and I looked at her and I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, I'm in love with this woman.' I didn't know where to turn or who to talk to - was it about me? Was it about her? And I started looking for information, and there was nothing to be found. And at first I thought I was the only woman in the world to experience this."

Strock believes there is no single solution for couples who find themselves in similar situations.

"There are a lot of women that are redefining their relationships now, redefining their marriages. And different things work for different people. It depends on the variable. Everyone's story is different."

Joining Redd and Strock in the discussion were Amity Buxton, founder of The Straight Spouse Network and Juliet Jeske, a comedian and former straight spouse.
