Justin Bieber has gotten a lot of criticism for his fashion choices, whether he's wearing a brightly-colored hat on the street or a pair of overalls to meet the Canadian prime minister. Lately, however, it's his propensity for shirtlessness that's been making headlines.

Lucky for us, MTV enlisted shirtless aficionado Matthew McConaughey to weigh in on the, er, controversy. When asked if Matthew views Justin as an "heir apparent" to his bare-chested legacy, he looked a little confused until the interviewer fills him in on the Bieber backlash.

"Really? Well, he keeps doing it in airports, right?" Matthew responds.

So the only rule is that walking in the airport requires a shirt, Matt? He clarifies: "No, no, no, no, no... I'm not saying you've got to wear a shirt in an airport, especially, I think, he's flying private he can wear whatever he wants," adding, "It's appropriate wherever you say it's appropriate. It's your shirt."

Duly noted. Keep in mind, though, that Mr. McConaughey is a bit biased on the matter -- aside from formal sit-down interviews and red carpet appearances, is the man ever less than half-naked? (For the record, we're not complaining.) On the other hand, he does have a clothing line that includes shirts...
