Brian Stelter's authoritative book on the morning show war between NBC's "Today" show and ABC's "Good Morning America," Top of the Morning, also discusses changes in the cable news morning landscape. And the New York Times reporter says that he made one "big mistake" in the book when discussing CNN's show: he was so sure Erin Burnett would anchor that network's morning show, that he included it in his Afterword.
"This shows you how convinced I was that Erin Burnett was going to be the host," Stelter told HuffPost Live host Alicia Menendez. "In fact, it shows you how convinced the bosses were," he added, citing a January conversation with an unnamed Time Warner executive who confirmed the plan.
Instead, of course, Kate Bolduan was named as Chris Cuomo's co-host on CNN's new morning show.
"No one's really written a great story about what happened," he said. "It seems like [Erin] was unwilling to move from the evenings to the mornings."
