Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and HBO are developing "Monster," a series based on the work of Japanese "manga" (or comics) author Naoki Urasawa, Deadline reported Thursday.

Del Toro will be in charge of writing the script along with Steven Thompson, known for his work on "Dr. Who" and "Sherlock."

Thompson will write the pilot chapter, which the Mexican filmmaker intends to direct, the publication said.
