Boulder Sinkhole: Folsom St. Re-Opened After Weekend Repairs

After working through the weekend, Boulder crews were able to repair and re-open Folsom Street this morning after a water main break on Thursday opened up a sinkhole in the road, according to city officials.

Folsom Street was re-opened around 6 this morning, according to city spokesman Mike Banuelos. The sidewalk was repaired Sunday and the road was mostly paved over by Sunday, according to Banuelos.

"Crews worked really hard throughout the weekend," Banuelos said. "We definitely wanted to try and hit Monday."

City officials said a 16-inch water main broke around 3:30 a.m. Thursday beneath Folsom near Stadium Drive, collapsing the roadway into a sinkhole that was about 15 feet by 30 feet in size, and cracking the street and sidewalk all the way down to Taft Drive.

The damage caused by the sinkhole forced the city to shut down Folsom between Colorado Avenue and Taft Drive near the University of Colorado on Thursday morning. ___
