Budweiser's 'Buddy Cup' Makes You Facebook Friends By Bumping Glasses

This Cup Makes You Facebook Friends With Anyone You Tap Glasses With

If there was ever an invention that is 5 years too late, it's this one. Budweiser Brazil has created the Buddy Cup, "a cup integrated with Facebook," that makes you Facebook friends with someone when you clink glasses. There are so many things wrong with this idea, but the first problem is that Budweiser is connecting to Facebook as the site, while still popular, has arguably lost its cool factor. And beer makers, in order to sell beers, want to look cool.

The other big issue is privacy. Users scan the QR code on the bottom of the cup, connecting it to their Facebook profiles, and then they open themselves up to all sorts of problems. All you have to do is bump your glass with someone else's and they have access to your Facebook profile. A bad idea in general, but when alcohol is involved it gets really scary. It looks like even accidental taps between cups make each holder friends. The thought of having the ability to quickly and easily give away personal information to strangers while drinking... now that's terrifying.

Budweiser plans to utilize these cups at branded events like concerts and festivals, The Drum reports. Cheers!
