Human Skull And Bones Found By Michigan Runner Out With Her Dog

No bones about it, this is definitely not the kind of thing you want to stumble on when walking your dog.

On Sunday evening just before 6 p.m., a woman had the unfortunate surprise of discovering a skull and human remains. She was out running with her pooch in Romulus, a suburb of Detroit. See video of the otherwise peaceful-looking spot above.

Romulus police said male clothing found on and around the bones indicated that the remains belonged to a man. However, as of Monday afternoon they still did not know the identity of the individual or cause and time of death.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office is working on the case to answer those questions, which will help the police determine whether they need to launch a murder investigation.

Unfortunately, the jogger's discovery was not the first of its kind in the area lately. A skull was found in a wooded part of Brownstown Township this February by a man searching for deer antlers. Last month, authorities identified it as belonging to Lizzie Marie Mae Collier-Sweet, a woman whose 2007 disappearance had long been a mystery.

In August and December of last year, human remains were found in two separate sewers in the Detroit suburbs of Sterling Heights and Warren. Though there were similarities in their cases, the remains belonged to different women.

And in a Chicago suburb this month, two youths were walking in a wooded area when they found human remains.
