The Boston Red Sox have extended a unique invitation to Jason Collins.

After the 12-year NBA veteran became the first active male athlete in a major U.S. team sport to come out as gay, the Boston Red Sox organization expressed its support via Twitter and invited Collins to Fenway to throw out a first pitch.

Collins spent a portion of the 2012-2013 NBA season in Boston with the Celtics before being traded to Washington. Perhaps he'll find time to return during the offseason and take the mound at Fenway.

Along with this salute and invite from the Red Sox, support for Collins was pouring in from his NBA peers and athletes in other sports on Monday. Here are some of the notable reactions.
