After a 30-year relationship, a World War II veteran and his girlfriend are proving that it's never too late to tie the knot.

Eighty-eight-year-old Jack Wright married 57-year-old Shirlene King Tuesday at the West Los Angeles veteran's hospital, where Wright is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Local news station KNBC reported Wednesday that the couple met at a hot tub party in 1983 and have been together ever since. When Wright got sick, they decided it was time to finally get married. They said their vows in the hallway of the oncology department, surrounded by doctors, nurses and staff members.

“I have to undergo several treatments. She’s been by my side every step of the way,” Wright said.

Although a hospital may not be a couple's first choice for a wedding venue, it can be a great option for patients undergoing treatment. A Kansas City hospital hosted a wedding last month for a cancer patient and his girlfriend, and in 2012 a couple married in an Ohio hospital after the bride-to-be went into early labor.
