Mark Sanford: 'Is This Fox News Or The National Enquirer?' (VIDEO)

'Is This Fox News Or The National Enquirer?'

After voters chose to give him a second chance on Tuesday, former-governor-turned-newly-elected Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) is staying away from disclosing private-life details, even on Fox News.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Sanford was asked by host Chris Wallace what his four children thought of mistress-turned-fiancée Maria Belen Chapur appearing at Tuesday's victory party. Sanford did not budge.

"I'm not going to go into inner-family conversations, but I would just say it is what it is," Sanford said.

Wallace attempted to move the topic to a more positive light, asking about the couple's plans to a) set a day for their wedding and b) possibly create a new living arrangement together. At that point, even Wallace had to comment on the direction the interview was going.

“Do you have a date for your wedding and will your fiancée, will she come to Washington to live with you?" Wallace asked. "I feel like I'm the National Enquirer here.”

Sanford jumped on Wallace's framing of the question, firing it right back to him.

"Exactly," Sanford said. "Is this Fox News or the National Enquirer? So, I'm not going to make news on that front tonight — or this morning.”

Sanford completed his political comeback on Tuesday, defeating challenger Elizabeth Colbert Busch (D) by nine percentage points in the special election for South Carolina's 1st District congressional seat. The seat opened in December when then-Rep. and current Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) was appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley (R) to replace departing Sen. Jim DeMint.

Clarification: This post has been updated to note that Wallace's question to Sanford was about whether he and Belen Chapur had picked a date for their wedding, as well as the possibility of her moving to Washington. A previous version implied that the question was about whether they were bringing separate dates to their own wedding.
