Email From Steve Jobs To James Murdoch Might Show Conspiracy To Undercut Amazon

This Is An Email Steve Jobs Sent To James Murdoch

The Department of Justice is accusing Apple of conspiring with publisher HarperCollins to drive up prices of ebooks. One of the big pieces of evidence in the case is an email from then-Apple CEO Steve Jobs to James Murdoch, deputy chief operating officer of News Corp., which owns HarperCollins, and son of the media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Now you can read the email that everyone is talking about.

“Throw in with Apple and see if we can all make a go of this to create a real mainstream e-books market at $12.99 and $14.99," Jobs writes. It does seem like Jobs is attempting to push prices up, but if you read the rest of the email, as Gizmodo points out, it looks like those prices are meant to be caps.

You can read the email in question, originally uncovered by AllThingsD after being mentioned in the New York Times, below, and decide for yourself.
