Barbara Walters: I Still Keep In Touch With Monica Lewinsky

Barbara Walters revisited her famous interview with Monica Lewinsky, telling Dave Letterman on Thursday night that she still keeps in touch with Lewinsky.

The ABC newswoman dropped by "The Late Show," where she and Letterman talked about some of her biggest interviews. Walters lamented that the world hasn't allowed Lewinsky to move on. When asked if she has spoken to her recently, Walters said "in touch with her" from time to time.

"I think she has an OK life," she said. "I think it’s still difficult for her. Since this is my last year in television, I would love to be able to talk to Monica again."

She said she would also like to interview the pope and the Queen of England.

Walters announced last weekend that she will retire in May 2014. "It has been an absolutely joyful, rewarding, challenging, fascinating and occasionally bumpy ride," she said Monday. "I'm perfectly healthy, this is my decision, I've been thinking about it for a long time, and this is what I want to do."

She also told ET that she would like Lewinsky to be her last interview. "She hasn't been seen and I think she is a good person," Walters said.

Their original interview in 1999 is still the highest-rated of all time, and was watched by 74 million people. Walters said that after it, the most calls she got were asking what color Lewinsky’s lip gloss was.
