Lindsay Lohan Gains 5 Pounds After She Is Cut Off From Adderall (REPORT)

LiLo Probably Isn't Happy About This

Lindsay Lohan has reportedly gained five pounds (groundbreaking, we know) while in rehab at the Betty Ford Center after being cut off from Adderall.

RadarOnline.com reports the 26-year-old has been turning to food for comfort and has been packing on the pounds after checking into Betty Ford earlier this month for her 90-day sentence.

She has been “extremely emotional this past week and is finding comfort in food," a source told Radar. "Lindsay can’t stop eating, and has gained five pounds because she has such poor eating habits. She has been exercising, but she just doesn’t have a lot of energy because she is no longer taking Adderall, which is a psychostimulant medication that contains amphetamine. She has been talking to a nutritionist at Betty Ford about eating healthier."

Radar's source added that food at Betty Ford is delicious and meals are elaborate affairs. So the "Liz & Dick" star has been eating a lot, while not getting the same effects she used to from her Adderall. "She is complaining that the new medications doctors prescribed, which isn’t amphetamine based, aren’t working. She is just making herself miserable,” the source said.

Last week, TMZ reported that Lohan has been banned from taking Adderall. Doctors reportedly evaluated the troubled starlet and determined that she does not need the medication even though she claims she suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Adderall increases attention and decreases restlessness, according to Mayo Clinic. If the drug is taken too often it can become habit-forming so patients are asked to take only as much and only for as long as doctors prescribe. One side effect of the drug is weight loss, and some have been known to use Adderall to stay thin.

"I have severe ADD," she told Piers Morgan before checking into rehab. "I can’t stand still. So I take Adderall for that, it calms me. I know people who take it to stay up, or girls who take it to supposedly stay slim because it kills your appetite. But I eat all the time. I just take it to stay calm. It works well for me."

Lohan's father, Michael, insists his daughter is addicted to the medication.

"I've said all along that this Adderall is killing her," he told HLN last December. "She never needed any drugs growing up when she was at the top of her career and [giving] her best performances. But now she is on all these drugs that are destroying her life."
