Body Found Remains Unidentified

CRYSTAL LAKE -- A body found by sheriff's search-and-rescue teams searching for a missing Big Bear Lake woman remained unidentified on Sunday.

The woman's body was found Saturday in a remote area about a mile from where the search for Karen Dalman, 59, began on Thursday, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff's news release. Dalman had not been seen since Tuesday.

Coroner's officials went to the Crystal Lake area Saturday evening to assist with the identification of the woman and with the investigation, authorities said.

Bruce Jackson, 56, of Erwin Lake reported Dalman missing early Thursday. They had gone on a day hike Tuesday and gotten separated.

Jackson told sheriff's deputies he and Dalman had gone for a hike near Crystal Lake and that the two were separated after his dog ran off.

Jackson told authorities he got lost and didn't find his way back to his vehicle until early Thursday. He then drove home and couldn't find Dalman.

Jackson contacted the sheriff's station in Big Bear Lake to report his friend missing, authorities said.

Paramedics were called to Jackson's home ,where he was treated for dehydration.

The Coroner's Office is planning to conduct an autopsy of the body found Saturday.
