Tree Stripped Of Bark By Lightning In Dubuque, Iowa (PHOTO)

LOOK: Tree Stripped Bare By Lightning

We've never seen anything quite like this.

An ash tree on the campus of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, was apparently stripped of its bark by a bolt of lightning on Sunday night, according to local paper The Telegraph Herald and to a couple of Reddit users who uploaded photos to the social news site early Monday morning.

Take a look at the tree in the pic below:

The Telegraph Herald tweeted another amazing photo of the naked tree. Check that pic out here.

Unfortunately, the future of the ash tree is uncertain. By stripping it of its bark, the lightning may have also stripped its phloem, the tissue responsible for transporting nutrients throughout a tree. Phloem is crucial for its survival.
