D.C. Sinkhole: Sinkhole At Major Intersection Closes Streets, Annoys Commuters (PHOTOS) (UPDATED)

PHOTOS: ANOTHER Sinkhole In Washington (This Isn't It)

Want to know why D.C. commuters are cranky?

DC Water spokeswoman Pamela Mooring told the Washington City Paper on Tuesday afternoon that the 15-foot-deep sinkhole at the intersection at 14th and F streets NW was caused when a piece of concrete broke through a sewer line.

"The concrete fell and broke our sewer line, and that compromised all the soil around it," Mooring told the City Paper.

As of about 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, streets were still closed. And police did not seem optimistic that traffic would flow freely again soon.

All that time stuck in traffic gave some the opportunity to ponder life's big questions and deepest fears:

Sinkhole in DC. If you fall in does that mean you go to China? Outerspace? Who has the answer? #QuestionOfTheDay

Apparently there's a sinkhole at 14th and F streets?!? I'm never going to get home. And my nightmare about sinkholes in DC are coming true..

And here's more visual evidence of D.C.'s paved parts in trouble:

A smaller sinkhole -- described by some eyewitnesses as "tiny" -- closed a D.C. block in March.

UPDATE, 8:17 a.m.: Streets are still closed through Wednesday morning's commute as sinkhole repairs, shocked and wry sounding tweets about same, continue.

This sink hole on 14rh & Fst is huge!!!
