Twins Hold Hands After Birth In Remarkable Image Of First Embrace (VIDEO)

LOOK: Twins Have A Remarkable First Embrace

Take one look at this remarkable photo, and you'll see why it's garnering attention around the world.

The striking image, taken at a hospital in northern Spain, shows twins holding hands shortly after birth.

Delivered by Caesarean section at a hospital in Gipuzkoa, Danel and Maria were placed alongside each other in an incubator when the twins grabbed a hold of each other, Spanish-language wire service EFE reports.

"They each looked different ways and yet they naturally joined hands," Dr. Javier Rodriguez told EFE.

Calling the embrace "instinctive," Rodriguez said this is the first time he has seen anything like it. After the pair interlocked their hands and fingers, a nurse managed to capture the moment.

Now 4 months old, the twins have become Internet celebrities in their own right after the photo was first published on daily newspaper Diario Vasco's website.

Parents Naiara and Mario Morales told the local newspaper that they could not believe how much the photo has been shared around the globe.

The image is reminiscent of a photo snapped earlier this year when Randy Atkins took a picture of his baby girl Nevaeh grabbing a doctor's finger in the midst of a C-section delivery. Like the twins' photo, capturing the precious moment was all about chance and timing.
