A new season of "MasterChef" means a new batch of contestants cooking up crazy dishes just to try and get a spot on the show. Texas stay-at-home dad Brian certainly got the attention of the judges with his dish: roadkill. He served up stripped and shaved Cajun beaver tail.
“Literally, you could pass that off as beef," Graham Elliot said, but Brian disagreed with him on that point.
“I’ve never had anything quite like that before," said Joe Bastianich. After the tasting, it was a big moment for Brian as his roadkill dish earned him a spot on the show.
“I’m going to take home the trophy, baby!” he shouted excitedly.
But Brian's beaver wasn't the only unusual dish served up. Buddy TV noted that "a substantial portion of this season's ‘talent’ pool apparently comes from the Honey Boo Boo school of cooking, serving up roadkill dishes like wild rabbit, bear, water bugs ... Other unique ingredients include dry Ramen noodles and breast milk. The judges spend a decent amount of time spitting out food during this segment.”
The AV Club doesn't like these early episodes, though. “The audition episodes have always been the bane of 'MasterChef,' which, given the nature of cooking on TV, is unlikely to produce a YouTube star of the stature of William Hung or the ‘Pants on the Ground’ guy. Trains wrecks are funnier to listen to than to see some other guy taste.”
Nevertheless, the audition rounds continue into next week on "MasterChef," but the Top 19 are also revealed and begin competing in the two-hour installment. Tune in Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
