Ashley Shepard, Sales Associate, Shares The Secret To Natural Makeup Application

The Trick To Natural-Looking Makeup

When we happened upon this Van Cleef & Arpels sales associate in Union Square, we were blown away by her minimal look and flawless skin. Ashley Shepard had us convinced that she was wearing virtually no makeup -- but it turns out this lady just knows the secret to natural application.

She gets her dewy look by applying Revlon ColorStay Foundation, but there's a caveat: "I use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush for my foundation because the foundation is a thicker substance, which I like when it's humid because it'll stay, but it can look like I have a full face of makeup on." To combat that, Shepard puts "a little water on [her] brush to thin it out a bit." She insists that it gives the same full-coverage but still looks smooth and natural.

In terms of her silky hair, Ashely uses macadamia nut healing oil spray, but this product comes with a warning: "You have to be careful not to use too much of it or your hair will look really oily." It looks like she's got it down to a science.
