It's a rare moment for anyone to be able to "have one's cake and eat it too," but that's exactly what Rafael Nadal experienced after cruising to a 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kei Nishikori at Roland Garros on Monday afternoon.
The arguable main attraction, however, didn't come until after the match had ended.
After dispatching Nishikori in straight sets, Nadal could be seen beaming ear to ear after receiving a massive cake in celebration of his 27th birthday. The entire crowd stuck around to serenade the Spaniard with a raucous, impromptu rendition of "Joyeux Anniversaire."
Later this week Nadal will meet Switzerland's Stanislas Warwinka in the Quarterfinals, as he pursues a fourth straight (and eighth overall) French Open title. Such a title would make Nadal the first tennis player to ever win a single Grand Slam event eight times.
