Sofia Vergara: Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis 'Brought Me Down To Earth' (VIDEO)

Sofia Vergara Opens Up About Cancer

Sofia Vergara joined HuffPost Live Tuesday and opened up about her battle with thyroid cancer, which left her without a thyroid and inspired her to become an advocate for hypothyroidism awareness.

Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000 and is now the face of the Follow The Script campaign, which aims to educate individuals with hypothyroidism about the importance of being consistent with the treatment their doctor prescribes.

Vergara told HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill that, following her cancer diagnosis, she began to make some changes in her life.

"It brought me down to earth and to realize the important things," she said. "Also, I started taking more care of my body, to be more healthy."

Vergara now takes a pill every day to manage her thyroid hormones.

Still, despite her activism for hypothyroidism, Vergara is not trying to be a cancer activist.

"I am not the face of cancer!" Vergara said.
