Justin Bieber's Twitter Reaches 40 Million Followers, Which Makes Him Most Followed Person On The Site (VIDEO)

Justin Bieber took to Twitter yesterday to thank his beliebers for helping him reach the 40 million followers mark on the social media site.

Bieber juxtaposed a tweet from 2009 in which he thanked his fans for helping him reach 40 followers, with a recent tweet that includes the hashtag #40MillionBeliebers.

According to DigitalSpy, this milestone makes the 19-year-old Canadian heartthrob the first person on Twitter to hit 40 million followers. Over the course of a day, Bieber garnered over 50,000 new followers, making his current followers count 40,050,967.

Next in line for the throne is the celebrity who used to be the most followed on Twitter until five ago, Lady Gaga (with 37.9 million followers); After her is Katy Perry with 37.4 million followers, President Barack Obama with 32.2 million, Rihanna with 29.8 million and Taylor Swift with 28.6 million.

According to the site SocialBakers, which checks fake followers vs. real ones, 44 percent of Bieber's current followers are fake, 21 percent are inactive, and only 35 percent are considered "good."
