'72 Hours' Premiere: Teams Race To Track Down $100,000

TNT has a new twist on the racing reality competition series with "72 Hours." This new entry in the over-crowded field drops nine strangers -- divided into three teams of three -- onto a tropical island. They have the titular 72 hours, or three days, to track down a $100,000 prize. The first team to find the prize wins it all.

To make things a little easier, they're basically told where the money is. At least, they're given a GPS device that shows them where the briefcase full of cash is. It's up to them to figure out how to get there, and hope they can do it faster than the other two teams. The only other rule is that they can only travel when the sun is up. So the competition is far less brutal and ruthless than it could have been.

Nevertheless, the challenge is still physically exhausting. In the premiere episode, Lindsay pushed herself to the point that she started puking everywhere. "I have the taste of barf in my mouth,” she said, which seemed a bit obvious, considering.

It was worth it in the end, though, as it was Lindsay's team who got to that briefcase first and won the prize. And that was it. Or, as Gossip & Gab put it, this is TNT's attempt at reality TV. That certainly implies that it's not a success.

Zap2It was a little more enthusiastic, writing, "This is an especially good show for those of us who don't like the manufactured drama of much of what passes for ‘reality’ television these days. Sure, there is drama, but it's more the drama that comes from someone thinking he or she is actually going to die than from wealthy people back-stabbing each other.”

The clock resets on another "72 Hours" every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.
