World Naked Bike Ride Chicago: City Marks 10th Anniversary Of Worldwide Anti-Oil Event

World Naked Bike Ride Marks 10th Chicago Anniversary

It may be the only bike event all year where participants don't need to suit up.

Saturday marks the tenth anniversary of the World Naked Bike Ride in Chicago, a worldwide event that celebrates bikes, the human form and makes a statement against Big Oil.

The World Naked Bike ride is "a people-powered happening bringing radical attention against oil addiction; It's not primarily a naturist party," the event's website reads.

This year, skaters on both boards and quads are invited to join in the 14-mile trek around town, with at least one demonstration stop planned for a Lincoln Park BP gas station.

With a bare-as-you-date motto, the yearly event encourages riders to "obey police and thank them for their help," according to the WNBR Chicago page. While indecent exposure charges are possible, nudity-based arrests are generally rare.

For Chicago's ride, swimwear and costumes are acceptable gear for those who don't wish to bare all; a body painting party also kicks off at 6 p.m. for those who want something in the way of coverage but don't want to violate the spirit of nudity.

The 10th annual World Naked Bike Ride Chicago is Sat. June 8 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Check-in starts at 6 p.m. at 1025 W Randolph St.
