John Legend On Chrissy Teigen: Singer Tells Oprah How He Knew Model Was The One (VIDEO)

WATCH: How John Legend Knew Chrissy Teigen Was 'The One'

Grammy Award-winning artist John Legend met model Chrissy Teigen in 2006 while shooting the music video for his hit single "Stereo," and the couple dated for years before Legend proposed in December 2011. What made him finally decide it was time? That's one question Oprah asked when she recently sat down with the couple.

In an interview for "Oprah's Next Chapter," John and Teigen talk candidly about their seven-year relationship, with Legend opening up about why he finally decided to pop the question.

"I don't think it was one particular moment," Legend explains. "I knew I loved her, I knew I could see myself living with her and spending time with her forever, I knew I could envision us having kids together and I felt like it was time to propose."

Though Teigen had been waiting for his proposal for years, Legend says that she never insisted on getting engaged. "She didn't pressure me. She didn't say, 'It's time to put a ring on it,'" Legend tells Oprah. "I felt like, it's time for us to get married."

"Were you thinking, though, Chrissy, 'It's time to put a ring on it?'" Oprah asks her.

"I think you just lose hope then," Teigen laughs. "Maybe I had just lost hope."

"Oprah's Next Chapter" airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
