'The Wanted Life': Nathan Gets Bad News About His Vocal Chords

Viewers got to watch as Nathan Sykes got the bad news about his vocal chords that's kept him out of commission for months on "The Wanted Life." It was certainly bad news for someone who makes a living with their voice.

“All that red in the vocal chord -- that’s an explosive hemorrhage," his doctor told the 19-year-old. "Right here is a nodule. That nodule is quite firm and irritated; that thing acts like a callous. This means we have to shut you down.”

Nathan couldn't believe that his career was in jeopardy before he was even 20 years old. But his condition isn't unprecedented. As the doctor pointed out, Adele went through a similar condition recently, and she's since fully recovered.

John Mayer, on the other hand, has suffered repeated problems with the condition. For now, though, things look promising. Nathan performed his first gig in months, making a surprise appearance in London over the weekend.

The BBC reports that Nathan, who is two months out from surgery, isn't 100 percent just yet. He said he still has a few problems to work out.

The journey continues on "The Wanted Life" every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on E!
