John Oliver Takes Over 'Daily Show', Blasts NSA Scandal For Ruining The Summer: 'Jon's Been Gone One Day!' (VIDEO)

Oliver Blasts NSA Scandal: 'Jon Stewart's Been Gone One Day!'

"Welcome to 'The Daily Show', I am John Oliver and let's all just acknowledge for a moment that this is weird."

And so John Oliver, Senior British Correspondent, took over the hosting chair of "The Daily Show." Fortunately, after watching his first episode, we feel pretty confident that it's going to be a very good summer indeed. That is, unless the NSA ruins everything for everyone.

Oliver opened the show with some self-effacing jokes and then shared a letter Jon Stewart – who is taking the summer off to direct a film – supposedly gave him that said he would do a great job and that no big news stories broke over the summer anyway. He then tackled the clear exception to that rule, the NSA snooping scandal.

Watch parts one (above) and two (below) and then click over to "The Daily Show" site for more, including a segment where all the correspondents ignore the NSA in favor of expressing their anger over Oliver passing them over as host.
