Stunning Photo Shows Massive Black Forest Fire Smoke Plume

By late Tuesday afternoon the Black Forest Fire burning on 8,000 acres in El Paso County, Colo., forcing the evacuation of 2,625 people and 7,358 homes, had already grown massive and a photo snapped at a local baseball game gives a glimpse into incredible size and scope of the blaze as it began to grow much larger.

Late Tuesday Peter McEvoy tweeted this photo of a baseball game at Pine Creek High School, just southwest of the evacuation area, with a huge plume of dark smoke from the Black Forest Fire.

As many as 100 homes have have been consumed by the fire, KDVR reports, but an official number has not yet been released by authorities.

"That fire is far from under control," El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa told the Gazette.

Although no fatalities or injuries have been officially reported, Maketa says he fears the worst citing some residents who refused to leave. 2,625 people and 7,358 homes have been evacuated from the area.
