AWLA Cats Up For Adoption

In a June press release, the shelter announced that over 100 cats are being kept at the shelter or are in foster care and that the shelter is expecting around 100 more to arrive in the next month, due to what Neil Trent, the president and CEO of AWLA, describes as, "spring during kitten season."

Adult cats are normally $100, but AWLA is offering a special promotion throughout June—“Three Name Your Fee.” Folks who adopt cats 3 years old and over not only can name their price, but their adoption fee will also include: a certificate for a free exam with a participating veterinarian, spay or neuter surgery, a feline leukemia and feline AIDS test, a distemper vaccination, a personalized I.D. tag, a microchip, an information packet and an emergency sticker.

And for those who cannot become owners, the shelter is constantly on the lookout for new foster parents.

"Our greatest need right now is for fosters who can help to take care of these kittens for a few weeks until they are old enough to be adopted," said Sara Emery, the AWLA foster care coordinator, in the press release.

But foster parenting isn't for everyone. Emery says that the kittens in most need of fostering "need to be fed every three to four hours around the clock."

AWLA also put together a list of reasons you should adopt a cat. We think number two should be enough for you!

And don't forget about the other animals in the D.C. area that are looking for a home!
