Ted Cruz Proud To Be 'Obamaphobic'

Tea Partier Embraces 'Obamaphobic' Jab

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to Sen. Bob Menendez's (D-N.J.) remark that the Tea Party-backed lawmaker suffers from "Obamaphobia," tweeting Tuesday night that he is a proud "Obamaphobic."

During a Tuesday appearance on MSNBC's "Jansing & Co.," Menendez took issue with Cruz's claim that President Barack Obama is the "biggest obstacle" to Congress passing comprehensive immigration reform.

“I think Ted Cruz is fixated on this issue and it’s amazing to me representing a state like Texas that he doesn’t understand that a pathway to citizenship is really what is desired,” Menendez said. “I think he has Obamaphobia."

Cruz tweeted in response:

Cruz, elected to the Senate last year, has become known for his outspoken rhetoric in his short congressional tenure, prompting some members of his own party to publicly condemn the freshman lawmaker.

In an interview with The Huffington Post's Jon Ward, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) characterized Cruz as a "wacko bird."

“If standing for liberty and standing for the Constitution makes you a wacko bird then I am a very, very proud wacko bird,” Cruz said in response.
