Least Summery Summer Songs Of The Past 30 Years: Jams That Don't Quite Mesh With Your Barbecue

Summer is known for producing a distinctive brand of anthems. As the weather warms and the beach calls out, our ears pine for breezy jams that are perfect for grooving in the sun. This year's slate includes Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," Icona Pop's "I Love It" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" -- all songs that epitomize the idea of the essential picnic-day ditty.

A quick look back at previous Billboard Hot 100 lists turns up a fair share of non-summery summer hits. Whether they have maudlin lyrics or a morose beat, these singles seem more suited for the gloom of winter than the shine of summer. Here are some of the most out-of-place beachside smashes of the past 30 years along with their weepiest lyrics.
