Staffing Execs: 650 Layoffs Planned Linked To Unpaid DPS Contract | Crain's Detroit Business

Layoffs Coming At Detroit Schools Over District's Missed Payments

Two staffing companies plan to lay off about 650 employees at Detroit Public Schools by Aug. 12 if the school district cannot resolve a dispute over more than $18 million in missed payments on a building services contract.

Vice President Steve Cox of Gaithersburg, Md.-based Sodexo North America and COO Scott Rice of Detroit-based Powerlink Facilities Management Services both confirmed Monday they sent notices to the state Workforce Development Agency of pending layoffs, under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
