Terry Moran Leaving 'Nightline' For ABC News' London Office; Dan Abrams Named Replacement

Terry Moran Leaving 'Nightline'

ABC News announced on Wednesday that longtime "Nightline" host Terry Moran would be leaving the program to become the network's chief foreign correspondent and news anchor based in London. ABC News' chief legal affairs anchor Dan Abrams was named as Moran's replacement.

ABC News president Ben Sherwood made the announcement in an email to ABC News staffers:

After serving as an outstanding White House Correspondent for ABC from 1999 through 2005, Terry has crisscrossed the globe for ABC News and Nightline chasing some of the biggest international stories. He embedded with our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, reported a week-long series on America’s detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, and, most recently, gave viewers a rare glimpse into life inside the war-torn country of Syria. Then there is the unforgettable image of Terry reporting amidst the cheering crowds in Tahrir Square, conveying the emotion of the Egyptian people so clearly as news broke that Hosni Mubarak was stepping down from power.

Moran will move to London later this summer but contribute to the network's coverage of the upcoming Supreme Court decisions on cases including same-sex marriage and affirmative action. Abrams will continue his segments on "Good Morning America" and join the "Nightline" team.

Moran's role change came just months after ABC bumped "Nightline" to a later time slot so that Jimmy Kimmel's late night program could move to 11:35 p.m., competing directly with David Letterman and Jay Leno's shows. ABC also added a primetime hour for "Nightline" with a program called "The Lookout," to which Abrams will also join.
