Turkey Protests: Wedding Held Amid Demonstrations In Taksim Square (VIDEO)

WATCH: Couple Weds In Midst Of Turkish Protest

In the middle of Istanbul's Taksim Square, a protestor wearing a wedding dress and another wearing a suit and tie stood out.

They were Barish and Derya Demirci, both teachers, who married in Taksim Square while thousands gathered there to protest the Turkish government, CNN reported Sunday.

"We've been part of this movement from the start. We only stopped to get married. Now we'll continue to struggle to protect our country," Barish said.

The Turkish protests started last month as a small environmental sit-in, but turned into nationwide demonstrations against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's 10-year rule. Police have used tear gas and water hoses to dispel the crowds and at least four people have been killed.

During protests in Egypt in 2011, one couple posed for their wedding photos in front of an armored vehicle, and another actually married in Cairo's Tahrir Square.
