Reporter Apologizes For Suggesting Greenwald's Arrest

CNBC host and New York Times reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin apologized to Glenn Greenwald on Tuesday for suggesting that he should possibly be arrested in connection with the Edward Snowden case.

On Monday, Sorkin caused controversy when he said of Snowden. "I would arrest him and now I’d almost arrest Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who seems to be out there, he wants to help him get to Ecuador.”

On Tuesday's "Squawk Box," he repented.

"I put my foot in my mouth, and I'm sorry about this, when I veered into hyperbole," he said. "It didn't come out right and I misspoke ... I'm sorry I said it that way and I'm sorry I said it."

Greenwald, for his part, accepted the apology:

@andrewrsorkin @SquawkCNBC Thank you: accepted & appreciated.
