'Under The Dome' Ratings: Millions Tune In For CBS' Stephen King Series

Millions tuned in to go "Under the Dome" on CBS Monday night. The new summer series, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, delivered big ratings for the network.

In total live viewers, "Under the Dome" pulled in 13.1 million. In the key 18-49 demographic, the series had a 3.2 rating.

King serves as an executive producer alongside Neal Baer, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider, Jack Bender and Brian K. Vaughan. The producers have "such a clear vision of where this show is going. We're prepared for success," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler told the Associated Press, confidently even before the premiere. "Under the Dome" could return next summer and there might be a "winter cycle" as well, she said.

And Vaughan told The Huffington Post that they are prepared for much, much more. "We treat this as if we are writing the first season of an ongoing series, not a TV miniseries. So it will be up to the audience, and we hope they show up and want more, but we certainly do. We have really long-term plans for this," he said.

"Breaking Bad" star Dean Norris, who plays Big Jim on "Under the Dome," told The Huffington Post that he thinks the show will be able to keep that audience. "For a CBS show, it feels like a cable show. You end it and you're, 'Whoa, OK' ... You would want to get to the next episode. It's intense and the quality of actors they got are just great. These young kids are really, really good. So all of that feels like I'm doing a cable show. It is like the best of both worlds, even though on paper, it seems like completely opposite. Every script I get, I'm even more excited."
