Latino Community Committed To Breastfeeding, Study Finds

Latinos Are Committed To Breastfeeding

Focus groups held locally last month found the Latino community is completely committed to breast-feeding, something that didn't surprise organizers of a national study.

"Most of them are first-generation that just arrived to the United States. That's not the real challenge for us; it's helping those mothers sustain breast-feeding and pass on the value of breast-feeding," said Lorena Gonzalez of Urban Strategies. "What we know is the further removed you are from the home country and the home values, the less likely you are to breast-feed, but these women breast-feed and want their children to do that too."
