Fremont Mathias, Pennsylvania Man, Allegedly Tried To Make Mom, Wife Take Blame For Fatal Crash

Husband Tried To Blame Deadly Crash On Wife, Mom: Cops

A Pennsylvania man is accused of killing a motorcyclist and then trying to get his wife and mother to take the rap for it.

Police say that Fremont Mathias, 32, was driving in Monroeville, Pa., on Sunday morning when his truck veered into oncoming traffic and hit 69-year-old motorcyclist Lawrence Matvey, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Mathias then went to his nearby home and tried to convince his mom and wife to take the blame for his actions, police said, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

"He tried to enlist the help of his family to cover up what he had done, and get one of them to take the blame for the accident,” Lt. Andrew Schuman of the Allegheny County Police told the station.

Mathias was allegedly able to convince his wife to call 911 and say she caused the accident. She could face charges for aiding her husband.

Mathias is being held in jail on a $250,000 bond, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

Matvey suffered injuries "to his face, chest and legs" and died at Forbes Regional Hospital, the Review reports.
