'Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls' Premiere: Survival Competition Sees Contestants Drink Their Own Urine (VIDEO)

The latest entry in the reality survival genre features one of the most famous survival experts of all time. "Get Out Alive" sees Bear Grylls challenging 10 teams of two to take on the challenges of living "Man vs. Wild"-style in New Zealand. For 30 days they will face challenges orchestrated by Grylls, and ultimately be judged by Grylls.

For each task, they are split into groups who are responsible for a certain aspect of survival -- for this premiere it was food, fire, obstacles and shelter. After assessing them throughout their journey, Grylls eliminates one team each week that he doesn't think would "get out alive." In the end, one team will take home the $500,000 prize. But it's not going to be easy. And, since this is Bear Grylls, it's going to involve drinking your own urine. Of course, he orchestrated this as the first challenge of the season.

"Sometimes in the wild, purifying dirty water or drinking urine is the only thing that’s gonna keep you alive," Grylls told the teams.

Four teams had to go "head-to-head" in a speed race. They had to heat up their urine and muddy water mixture to 95 degrees to purify it. Then they needed it to cool to 60 degrees, and then they had to drink it. In the end, for their lack of contribution, Grylls sent home Venessa and Erica.

Grylls spoke to Zap2It about the show, advising viewers to check their expectations. "You see, on Day One, these people, you think, 'They're going to die,'" he said. "Whether it's the overweight guys or the older guys or the gay couple, or whatever it is. But actually, there's no blueprint for a hero. You need to squeeze people to see what they're made of.”

He told Parade that viewers need to stick with the show until the bitter end. He promises the last episode will blow you away.
