Many have tried, most have failed -- but Amanda Seyfried just managed to pull it off.
For her new cover shoot in Elle, the blonde actress dons a version of Givenchy's long-sleeve, sheer-bottomed dress. Similar Givenchy gowns have been attempted by Joan Smalls at the Cannes amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala and Adriana Lima at the 2013 CFDA Awards. But both times, the dress just looked... silly. Strange. Unflattering.
Now Amanda has finally demonstrated how to wear this very difficult garment. Photographed by Carter Smith, she's got the tulle dress layered with a sweater, a slouching beanie and patchwork boots for a "kid who hangs out behind the bleachers" sort of look. And it totally works.
We suppose the bulk of the credit goes to Joe Zee, who styled the shoot and therefore conceived of Amanda's head-to-toe look. But credit to Amanda as well, for summoning her brooding teen-turned-fashion model to pull this dress off.
What do you think?

So nice, they wore it twice!
