These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question-and-answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?
7-Eleven is celebrating its 86th birthday on this apt date (July 11, of course) with a Malibu beach party hosted by Nikki Reed. In honor of the occasion, the "Twilight" star chatted with us about guilty pleasures, her favorite red-carpet looks and the time she received a marriage proposal from a young fan.
Why did you want to celebrate 7-Eleven Day?
Well, I just felt like it was such a fun, positive thing to be a part of, celebrating how long they’ve been around. I grew up with Slurpees and it’s such an integral part of my childhood.
What's your favorite Slurpee flavor?
I thought it was the Coca-Cola flavor, but today I’ve been drinking a lot of this new mango-lemonade flavor and I’ve got to say, I’m a fan. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s sugar-free.
What's your guilty pleasure?
Anything sweet -- chocolate. Too much chocolate.
What's always in your fridge?
Almond butter.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
I’m a vegan, so I would go freaking crazy with Cafe Gratitude. I mean, just wild. I would get every bowl: the Grateful bowl, and the Fortified, and the I Am Whole. That’s the lamest last meal you’ve ever heard [laughs].
How much time do you spend on Twitter?
When I’m shooting I'll forget to go on Twitter, just because my head spaces and my mind is elsewhere. But I spend a good amount of time on Twitter. I like to respond to my fans, so I don’t spend too much time coming up with cool tweets, like obsessively. But I do spend a lot of time connecting with the fans, because I think that’s kind of what Twitter is for.
What's been your craziest encounter with "Twilight" fans?
I had a really sweet young girl propose to me once. That was probably my favorite, only because I thought it was so awesome that -- and I mean this, this is not even sarcastic-- it was so cool that she goes, "Hey, my mom says when I turn 18 I can marry you." And I thought, what an awesomely supportive family. I was almost tempted to say, "Sure, we should do that," just because I thought it was so cool that the opportunity was there and her family was so behind it and I loved what that stood for.
You appeared in a Hanson video recently. What other bands or artists would you like to collaborate with?
The Hanson video was a special one, because I actually connected with those guys because I wrote them a fan letter. There are so many artists that I would just kill to do anything with. Right now, I'm really kind of obsessed with Macklemore’s song “Same Love.” So yeah, if they want to recreate that, I’m totally into it.
You've been designing jewelry. Is there a celeb you'd love to see wearing your jewelry, or whose style you love?
I saw Jessica Alba bought one of my necklaces the other day and wore it and was photographed and it kind of rocked my world. She's such a style icon and I was so in awe of the whole thing, I couldn’t believe it. But in terms of other people that I’m inspired by style-wise, not that this would ever happen, but if Gwen Stefani ever picked up anything I made I’d probably faint. I think Sienna Miller has great style. I think great Rachel Bilson has great style. I like women who experiment and don’t have one look. They can venture out and explore and let their clothing reflect who they are in the moment, and I think all those girls do that.
Any fashion regrets?
Most of the outfits that I've been most afraid to wear ended up being, not most praised ... but I was probably fearful because they felt really fashion-forward. For example, I was terrified of wearing the Versace dress that I wore to the last "Twilight" premiere. It took me four weeks to decide because, like every girl, I have insecurities and I thought, this isn't going to be flattering on my body, and I'm not going to look attractive, and what am I going to do? And actually to this day, it's probably my all-time favorite look. Same with the Michael Kors dress that I wore.
What's the best style advice you've received?
Michael Kors said I shouldn't be afraid to wear things that show off my body because, despite what I think, he thought I had a great body and having curves is not something you should run away from or hide. He gave me this dress that had these really severe cutouts that almost showed my entire stomach, which is probably my greatest insecurity. And I wore it, but again, it was a series of "I'm going to hyperventilate" and "OK, maybe I will have to ask for a different choice because I'm so nervous," and "Oh god, why did I eat that basket of french fries before I put this dress on." But I wore it and it ended up being one of my favorite looks also.
What's one thing from your childhood wardrobe that you wish you could wear now?
Most of my childhood wardrobe consisted of things that my mom made. We didn't have a lot of money, so we were really creative. My mom used to go buy different fabrics and textures, and beads from downtown, and sew them on the bottom of capri pants. So now that leopard’s coming back, I wish I could have my leopard jeans that my mom made me.
What's your summer beauty secret?
Remembering to moisturise. I use a lot of oils, like coconut oil. I just go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s or even Costco. Everyone gets scared of oils because they think it makes you break out, but it definitely doesn't.
What movie or song are you embarrassed to say you like?
I might’ve been listening to some of Miley Cyrus’ new single while I was hiking the past couple days. I’d like to learn how to twerk.
What's the silliest rumor you've read about yourself?
I always thought that with any of the rumors about the "Twilight" cast, it was hard for me to swallow, because I wasn't used to people making up things. And as I became more used to that, it became silly to me. I think the lack of drama in the cast actually created an environment where people wanted to make up drama.
